Two weeks in Fiji with two locations - Beqa Lagoon and Savusavu. I had very high expectations which were rudely destroyed very quickly. On the first day we cancelled the diving because of a thunderstorm. Yeah, lightning and a metal boat on the ocean… Maybe not. The next day we did a couple of soft coral dives, which were a bit meh. Certainly not what I would have expected from the ‘soft coral capital of the world’. Oh well… Things started looking up rapidly from there. Because sharks. Many of them. And rather close. In some cases one might say they got a bit too close, but luckily there were safety divers with big sticks pushing them away.

Next we moved over to Savusavu, where I went diving with Jean-Michel Cousteau Diving. With fantastic service, great guides, incredible reefs, this was simply mind-blowing and well worth the insane cost of dives (I had booked everything in a package, so didn't notice it at first, but at some point I saw that a 2 tank dive at this location goes for 495 FJD. That's… 230 USD. 😱). The diving here was absolutely outstanding, the soft coral abundant and diverse, and there's quite some fish. Would fully recommend!
